Changelog
Version 5.0
The 5th version of Octopus Watch is rolling out now, bringing a host of new features and improvements to both iOS and Android platforms. This major release includes significant internal changes, streamlining the app for added (and future) functionality and ease of use.
The changes listed below is a partial list of confirmed changes. More features will be added as they are confirmed.
General Improvements
- Android: Rewritten from scratch.
Over the last five months the Android app has been rewritten from scratch. The new version is a sleek, modern app that supports the latest features including Material 3. Internally, the app has been overhauled to improve performance and unlock future potential. - Agile peak time.
The peak time for Agile tariff has been set to 4-7 PM, making it possible to compare off-peak and on-peak usage as on other two-rate tariffs. - Rates table legend.
The Rates tab now includes a legend for easy understanding of icons used. - MPAN login.
Users with multiple meters or properties can now log in with their MPAN. - Revised history tabs.
The Electricity and Gas tab headers have been revamped for improved clarity and looks. - Gas SVT.
The standard variable rate for gas can now be shown on the Gas tab. - Tariff Comparison.
One-click tariff comparison. You’re welcome. SVT and Go are available to all; most smart tariffs for subscribers. - Mini stats.
New mini stats on History tabs provide quick insights on various aspects of your usage.
Subscriber Enhancements
- Tracker predictions.
Users on Tracker can now see predictions for the Tracker rates, using the same Nix prediction engine used for Agile. - Faster energy reports.
Energy reports are now generated up to 10 times faster. - More data.
A sleeker app means more data. Subscribers can now load up to 366 days of electricity history.
Deprecated Features
In order to continuously improve and streamline the app, some features have been removed. These decisions are never taken lightly, but are made in an effort to ensure Octopus Watch remains user-friendly and efficient:
- no more Agile/Go Comparison
Fewer people than ever can join the Go tariff. You need to have both an EV and a charging system that is not too intelligent. Otherwise you cannot join Go, or you’ll be assigned the (unsupported) IntelligentGotariff. The new Compare tool wholly replaces the old Agile/Go comparison. - no more Ignore Export
Ignoring export was useful in the early days when export meters were more likely to cause issues. Improvements since Octopus Watch 4 have entirely side-step these problems. The only remaining use for ignoring export has been to get (inaccurate) baseload measures, which are normally reserved for users with only import meters.
